Toledo Bend Lake is about 65 miles long, has 1,200 miles of shoreline in Texas and Louisiana, and offers some of the best fishing and boating opportunities in the state of Texas and Louisiana. Toledo Bend Lake is the largest man-made lake in the southern states.

This beautiful lake is popular for swimming, boating, waterskiing, fishing, camping and sightseeing.  There are many communities around Toledo Bend Lake where you can also enjoy dining, shopping and lodging.  You will find the people in the local communities friendly to tourists.

Toledo Bend Lake has marinas, lakeside cottages, resorts and lake rental houses along the shoreline.  The woods and the water provide a pleasant, relaxing atmosphere along with scenic beauty.  The shallow bayous and coves along the shoreline add to the pleasure of the area.  Visitors to the area also enjoy the wild flowers, the beautiful pine trees and the giant shade trees.

Toledo Bend Lake has many types of birds including cranes, pelicans, egrets, bald eagles, ducks and geese.  Many other birds also migrate through the area.

There have been reports over the years of Ivory-billed Woodpecker sightings around the Toledo Bend Lake area where the Neches and Angelina Rivers join.  The Sabine and Angelina National Forests in Texas are considered in the top ten areas for possible sightings of this once extinct bird.

The Toledo Bend Lake area also has a variety of wildlife including white tail deer, armadillos, foxes, raccoons, opossums and beavers.

Toledo Bend Lake is located on  the Sabine River in eastern Texas on the Texas-Louisiana state line.  Toledo Bend Lake is in three Texas counties: Shelby, Sabine and Newton counties. The dam is approximately 24 miles northeast of Jasper, Texas.

Toledo Bend Lake was impounded in 1967 and the deepest depth is about 110 feet.

Fishing in Toledo Bend Lake:
Aquatic grasses, brush and standing timber provide great fish habitat.  Toledo Bend Lake has been named one of the top 5 bass fishing lakes in the United States.  Texas Parks and Wildlife rates the fishing excellent for Largemouth Bass and Sunfish; good for Striped Bass, Catfish and Crappie; and fair for White Bass.  Guided fishing trips can be booked through many of the local marinas.
